Information we collect

When you contact us or subscribe we collect the email address you provide, any name you choose to give and the content of your message. We do not require an account to read the site.

Like most websites we also record standard technical information such as browser type, approximate region and the pages requested. This information is aggregated and is not used to identify individual readers.

How we use it

Email addresses are used to answer your message, to deliver the newsletter you asked for and to administer a Premium membership. We do not sell reader data and we do not share it with advertisers.

Technical information is used to keep the site fast, secure and readable on the devices our audience actually uses.

Legal basis and consent

We rely on your consent for marketing email and on legitimate interest for answering correspondence and running the website securely. You may withdraw consent at any time by replying to any message from us.

Retention

Correspondence is kept for up to twenty-four months. Membership records are kept for as long as the membership is active and for seven years afterwards where tax law requires it. Aggregated analytics are kept for twenty-six months.

Your rights

You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We respond to verified requests within thirty days.

If you are not satisfied with our response you may escalate the matter to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Third parties

We use a hosting provider and an email delivery provider to operate the site. These providers process data only on our instructions and under contract. We do not transfer reader data outside these arrangements.

Children

bolininnan is written for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes are announced on the homepage.
